I’ve been saying that the song “What Happened” by @sublime is a good theme song for this season in La Cruz since we can usually be found with this rag tag team of salty people sharing a bottle of Centenario tequila and dancing the night away at @lusty_on_land, just to wake up in the morning feeling like it was all a beautiful, fun dream and do it all over again 💃🏻

This is a special place for us. It’s where we really found “our people” and continue to feel supported in our mission to be the best versions of ourselves. At the nucleus of that, is Max and Karen who’s bar is a safe haven for every walk of life, which is why when Max’s birthday rolled around we were all STOKED to load up in the van and head to Sayulita to celebrate our dearest friend. Tequila, beach, some friendship ink, Thai food and dancing until 4:00 am… what an epic memory 🥳🎉

We stuck around Mazatlán a bit longer than planne

We stuck around Mazatlán a bit longer than planned since there was SO much to explore in the beautiful sea-side city, but Banderas Bay was calling us back so we raised our sails and pointed south to reunite with our sweet friends.

Most of our pals had already left to cross the Pacific, so we would be returning to a much sleepier La Cruz. However, after all the parties it would be a much needed reset.

After our hike we wandered into centro for breakfast at Totem which was phenomenal, then had the opportunity to visit the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception once mass got out.

This beautiful basilica began construction in 1856, on the site of an ancient native temple. Almost immediately after work was started it was suspended for nearly 20 years. General unrest and the French attempt to re-colonialize Mexico in the mid 1860s delayed the completion of the Basilica for two generations. In 1875 work resumed under the direction of Padre Miguel Lacarra, leading to consecration in 1899.

In 1937 — after much additional work and fervent lobbying in Rome — the Basilica de la Inmaculada Concepción was elevated to the status of a “basilica”, a Roman Catholic church or cathedral given special ceremonial privileges by the Pope.

Inside the Basilica, the image of the city’s patron saint, the Virgen de la Purisima Conception (Virgin of the Immaculate Conception) floats over the glided, baroque main altar. Overhead, soaring rounded Renaissance domes and gilded Gothic arches create an airy and spiritual space. The building has Gothic, Moorish and Baroque influences, reflective of the eclectic architectural fashion of its period - it is truly stunning with incredible detail ⛪️
